Replacing Catheterization for Women

During my year at Biodesign, my team and I developed a device to treat women with underactive bladder and urinary retention.

After developing the concept during Biodesign, I was selected to receive extension funding from Johnson & Johnson and the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign to continue work on the design. I also submitted and received clearance for an IRB proof of concept study to be run by a Stanford urologist, with funding from an NIH Spectrum Pilot Grant.

Catheterization is the current gold standard for the estimated 4 million women who suffer from this disease; however, the indignity of catheterization leaves many preferring to suffer in silence rather than dealing with their disease.
